Rain storms drenched the city Tuesday, with evening downpours so intense the New York City Department of Emergency Services issued a flash flood warning for Manhattan and the Bronx.
The deluge also triggered traffic delays in some areas. As of 7:30 p.m., at least four cars were trapped under three feet of water on the Major Deegan Expressway in the Bronx, with officials shutting down the expressway.
Floodwaters also took out the Throgs Neck on the Cross Island Parkway, with severe flooding on a northbound ramp, blocking traffic in all lanes, officials said.
Although the rainfall is not directly tied to tropical storm Debby, which touched down in Florida on Monday and caused the deaths of at least four people, meteorologists are reportedly predicting Debby is likely making storms in the northeast worse.
