Police say Allen was arrested just after 1 p.m. Sunday in the 7800 block of South Western Avenue, where the attack occurred.

According to police, around 8:30 a.m. Sunday, a male allegedly demanded free food from a cashier at the McDonald’s, and when the cashier refused, he showed a “hatchet-like object” and started to strike the victims.

According to police, an 18-year-old man and two 45-year-old women inside the McDonald’s were transported to area hospitals after the attack. The 18-year-old and one of the two women were reportedly said to be in good condition upon transport, while the other woman was seriously injured.

All three victims were employees.

While the suspect took off after the initial incident, officers were called back to the area just after 1 p.m. Sunday by people who identified a male that was hanging around the 79th Street and Western Ave. bus terminal as the person allegedly responsible.

WGN-TV cameras were rolling as police arrived and took the suspect into custody for questioning.
