The bodies of a Dover family, found dead in a murder-suicide in late December, were discovered on the day that they were due to be evicted from their home, The Boston Globe reports.

Authorities have said that Rakesh “Rick” Kamal killed his wife, Teena, and their 18-year-old daughter Arianna before turning the gun on himself in their $4 million, 21-room home in Dover. According to the Globe, a State Police report detailing the timeline around the murder-suicide revealed that the family was due to be evicted on Dec. 28, the same day their bodies were discovered.

According to the Globe, when police officers entered the home on Dec. 28, they found a typed message on a piece of paper that appeared to be intended for the person expected to pick up keys to the foreclosed property.

“Please Note,” the paper read, according to The Globe, “Before entering call the Police to first check three bedrooms on the second floor. Each room will be marked by a white sheet of paper.”

The Globe has previously reported that, unknown to his family, Rick Kamal had amassed massive debt in the years leading up to the murder-suicide, culminating in late Dec. 2023 with an order allowing the family to be evicted from their Dover mansion. The newspaper also previously reported that in the days before the Kamal family died, the beneficiaries on Teena Kamal’s life insurance policy were changed.

According to the police report reviewed by the Globe, two days before the family’s bodies were discovered, Rick Kamal texted his brother to cancel a Dec. 27 get-together, saying his wife and daughter were hospitalized with an allergic reaction to eating shrimp. He texted a similar story to his daughter’s boyfriend who was due to visit the family over the school holidays, asking him to delay the trip.

At the same time, Rick Kamal was also in constant contact with his home’s developer and mortgage holder about the approaching eviction, agreeing that he would leave the keys to the house on the counter on Dec. 28, according to the Globe.

The keys were discovered there by police responding to the home, according to the newspaper.
