Hazel Crest police are asking for the public’s help in investigating a fatal hit-and-run in which a woman was struck by two different vehicles.

She was identifed as 22-year-old Tamia Costello of Harvey by Hazel Crest police and died Sunday at Advocate South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest, police said.

Police were called Thursday at 11:20 p.m. to the area of 173rd Street and Kedzie Avenue for a car versus pedestrian crash, police Chief Mitchell Davis III said in a news release Monday.

Witnesses told officers the vehicle that hit the woman appeared to be a white SUV, and the driver continued north on Kedzie after striking the woman, according to the release.

Witnesses attempted to stop northbound traffic after the woman was hit as she lay in the street, but a black sedan, also going north, ignored their signals and struck the woman again, according to police.

The woman was unresponsive and suffered extensive injuries, and officers and witnesses rendered aid until Hazel Crest paramedics arrived, Davis said.

Police are asking anyone who saw anything or may have video related to the crash to call 708-335-9640.
