Southbound B and Q trains skipping Church Avenue station through fall, MTA says

Subway service changes to the B and Q lines in Brooklyn that started late on Sunday will continue through early next year due to construction for an accessibility project at a station in Flatbush, according to the MTA.

Southbound B (Brighton Beach-bound) and Q (Coney Island-bound) trains will skip the Church Avenue station through the fall, the MTA said.

Riders looking for service to that stop should take a train to the Beverly Road station and transfer to a Manhattan-bound B or Q train. Riders looking for service from Church Avenue can instead take a B or Q train to the Parkside Avenue station and transfer to another train there.

The MTA said it’s installing two new elevators at the Church Avenue station, along with other accessibility and safety improvements, including two new stairways and new platform edges.

To accommodate the work, B trains will run on the local tracks between the Prospect Park and the Kings Highway stations in both directions.

“The project will allow for increased accessibility for riders of all mobility, improved commuter flow, modernized design and improved visibility and enhanced safety with new platform edges,” the MTA said in a statement.

Starting in the fall, northbound B and Q trains will bypass the Church Avenue station, though the transit agency did not specify when exactly that would begin.

According to MTA, it’s awarding contracts for accessibility projects five times faster than it was before 2020. Last year, it awarded such contacts for 16 stations, compared to 13 the year prior.
