Two men charged with an April armed robbery had taken photos with a Naperville man — and the $11,000 he had collected in a settlement — moments before pulling out two handguns and shooting the Naperville man.

Kanyon Hardy, 19, Chicago, was arrested in late July and faces three felony armed robbery charges for the April 16 attack.

Another teen, who was a juvenile at the time of the incident, is charged with aggravated robbery with a firearm and was released in May on electronic monitoring to his sister in Lisle.

According to a motion to detain Hardy, he accompanied the teen to a house on the 2500 block of Leach Drive around 1:30 p.m. on April 16. The 22-year-old man who lived at the residence invited the teen to his home and ordered an Uber ride from the teen’s residence to his home in Naperville.

The teen showed up at the home with Hardy. The three men took pictures together with the $11,000 cash the 22-year-old man had just received in a settlement. The teen and Hardy then pulled out handguns, and a fight ensued. During the brawl, the 22-year-old man was shot in the leg, according to court documents.

The two men fled the area, prompting a soft lockdown for nearby schools, including Neuqua Valley High School.

A pretrial detention scheduled for Monday was moved to Aug. 16 after Hardy’s private attorney withdrew from the case. Will County Judge Amy Bertani-Tomczak assigned a public defender to represent Hardy, who remains in the Will County jail.
