CHICAGO — A man accused of injuring a 3-year-old boy in a shooting on the city’s West Side on Thursday is now facing a felony charge.
According to Chicago police, Jose Sanchez, a 42-year-old Evanston resident, has been charged with one felony count of aggravated battery with the discharge of a firearm.
The charge stems from a shooting that allegedly unfolded in the 1100 block of North Kostner Avenue on Thursday night.
Officers said the incident occurred at around 10:45 p.m. when the victim and his mother were inside a vehicle in the area.
Police said Sanchez allegedly approached their car in a pickup truck and opened fire, leaving the young boy with a graze wound to his left leg.
Following the shooting, the child was taken to the hospital, where he was listed in good condition.
Authorities have not provided further updates on the child’s condition.
Police eventually caught up with Sanchez in the city’s Lawndale neighborhood on Friday, where he was taken into custody just before 9 p.m. in the 4500 block of West Cermak Road.
Sanchez appeared in court on Sunday for a detention hearing.
