Austin's, surrounding cities' 9-1-1 system 'experiencing difficulties' Sunday

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin and other cities in the region experienced technical issues with their 9-1-1 emergency call systems Sunday.

The city of Austin said the entire capital area region is having issues with 9-1-1 calls. Some problems include callers and dispatchers having difficulty hearing each other, automatic location not populating and calls being answered by neighboring jurisdictions.

The city said in a press release that the 9-1-1 system isn’t out completely and calls are still coming through, but if anyone is having trouble making or completing a call in a life-threatening emergency, dial 3-1-1 or 512-974-2000 instead.

The Hays County Sheriff’s Office posted around noon on Facebook that the county was experiencing issues with its 9-1-1 system. Callers serviced by Hays County should dial 512-393-7896 if they’re having trouble getting through, the post said.
