Suspect dead after shooting involving Bastrop County deputies

BASTROP COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — A person is dead following a shooting with Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office deputies Saturday evening, authorities said.

The sheriff’s office said it responded to a call east of Bastrop about a person “indiscriminately shooting” around 8:48 p.m. where the person fired at a deputy but did not injure them.

The Special Response Team was called to the scene, and the suspect was shot and died after they “engaged the responding deputies,” Bastrop County Sheriff Maurice Cook said on social media.

The person was not identified. The sheriff’s office said the investigation is active and ongoing.
