Los Angeles County deputies shoot, critically injure allegedly armed man

Deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department shot a man on Saturday morning, leaving him critically injured, according to authorities.

The incident was reported at about 9:46 a.m. when deputies responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon on the 5900 block of South Street in the City of Lakewood.

LASD Lakewood Watch Sgt. Dennis Elmor told KTLA that deputies observed a man armed with a weapon when they arrived to the scene.

Eventually, deputies shot the man. It was not immediately clear what led up to the shooting, whether the man attacked the deputies or what specific type of weapon he carried.

Elmor said the man was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

The investigation remains underway. No deputies were injured in the incident.
