Chicago Football Classic announces $100K in scholarship winners

CHICAGO — In a continued effort to play a role in the development of Black professionals, the Chicago Football Classic (CFC) announced an investment into the future Friday.

The CFC announced 20 incoming college freshmen became the recipients of the 2024 Chicago Football Classic Scholarship.

“Up to date now, the Chicago Football Classic has given over $1 million in scholarships and we are investing in the future,” said Reverend Walter Turner, representing Sherman Dodge.

Scheduled to take place Sept. 21 at Soldier Field between Morehouse College and Kentucky State University, officials with the CFC said they are pushing forward with a mission to reward academic excellence through scholarships to African American youth who achieve in the classroom, and attend historically black colleges and universities.

“When college is done, I trust you will bring those talents back to the greatest freaking city in the world,” said Mayor Brandon Johnson, who was one of the presenters at the event Friday. “As a former teacher, I believe strongly this next chapter of your life will transform you in what you want to be.”
