A 3-year-old boy was with his mother when someone who was involved in a dispute with his father opened fire Thursday night wounding the child in the West Humboldt Park neighborhood, Chicago police said.

Shortly before 10:50 p.m., the boy was in a vehicle with his mother in the 1100 block of North Kostner Avenue when a known gunman in a pickup truck opened fire grazing the child to the left leg, police said.

The boy’s father was involved in a dispute with the gunman that led to the shooting, police said. The young boy was taken in good condition to Stroger Hospital.

No one was in custody, and detectives were investigating the circumstances leading up to the shooting.
