WEST TEXAS (Nexstar) — The eighth strongest earthquake in the state’s history shook West Texas late Monday night, with one of three quakes that occurred Monday reaching a magnitude of 4.9. People reported feeling shakes as far as the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.
At approximately 10:39 p.m. on Monday, an earthquake occurred between Snyder and Roby, Texas. About 15 minutes later, an aftershock with a magnitude of 4.4 struck in roughly the same location. A third earthquake with a 3.1 magnitude struck the same region right before midnight.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, smaller shakes were felt in West Texas on Tuesday: a 2.0-magnitude quake happened at 6:38 a.m., and another 2.9-magnitude earthquake was felt at 7:19 a.m.
Fisher County has about 3,622 residents. No damages or injuries have been reported.
According to TexNet Earthquake Catalog, the majority of quakes this year have happened in the greater West Texas region around Odessa.
