2 hurt, 1 dead in North Lawndale shooting, Chicago police say

Two men were wounded and one was killed when someone opened fire on a residential street Monday afternoon in the North Lawndale neighborhood, Chicago police said.

Police said the three victims were near a backyard in the 4100 block of West Cermak Road when at least one unknown person started shooting at them about 3 p.m.

Two men, ages 26 and 34, were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition, police said. The younger man was shot in the chest and armpit and the older man was shot in the leg. The third man was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The Cook County medical examiner identified the man killed as Jaime Baragan, of North Lawndale. Baragan, 29, lived on the block where he was killed, according to the medical examiner. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

As of Monday afternoon, police did not have any suspects in custody and area detectives were investigating.
