Police still looking for mother of newborn baby found in Lubbock dumpster

LUBBOCK, Texas — The Lubbock Police Department released a statement on Sunday after a newborn baby was found in a dumpster early Saturday morning near 4th Street and Cherry Avenue.

LPD previously asked for the public’s help in locating the mother of the baby that was found around 4:00 a.m. Saturday. Due to the status of the investigation, LPD said it will not comment on the health of the newborn at this time.

A statement said authorities are grateful for the concern and support for the baby. Police asked the public to use the “same focus and determination to help investigators identify and locate the mother.”

“The Lubbock Police Department is grateful for the outpouring of support and concern received from community members, and beyond, relating to inquiries surrounding the health of the newborn discovered early Saturday morning in a dumpster. It is the department’s sincerest hope the public uses that same focus and determination to help investigators identify and locate the mother. Due to the status of the investigation, and in order to protect the integrity of the case, LPD will not comment on the medical state and health of the newborn at this time. Anyone with information about the mother, the child, or information leading up to the discovery of the child is asked to call Crime Line at 806-741-1000.”
