Kamala Harris is already taking donations for Presidential bid

Current Vice President Kamala Harris has jumpstarted her Presidential campaign just hours after Joe Biden announced he’d no longer be seeking re-election.

In a post to X, formerly Twitter, Harris thanked Biden for his “extraordinary leadership” and “decades of service” to the country.

“I am honored to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination,” she said.

Harris, who has kept a relatively low profile in her time as VP, is now running full-steam ahead for the Democratic nomination to face off against former President Donald Trump in November.

After thanking Biden, the VP shifted into campaign rhetoric in her post to X.

“I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party—and unite our nation—to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda,” Harris said. “If you’re with me, add a donation right now.”

She then linked a website which allows supporters to donate to the Harris campaign. The site, still in its infancy in light of the breaking news, was lacking a campaign slogan, logo or platform as of 1:48 p.m. PST.

Harris was yet to name a running mate as of Sunday afternoon, but potential candidates include Arizona Senator Mark Kelly, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

The Democratic nomination is not set in stone. The party will convene in Chicago between Aug. 19-22, where nearly 4,700 delegates are set to cast their votes for the nominee.

Biden’s withdrawal throws an obvious wrench in those plans. The party will enter its historic convention with no official nominee, which leads to the possibility of a divided, chaotic selection process, but the endorsements that Harris has and will continue to secure could make her the presumptive nominee in the weeks to come.
