Data: Austin unemployment rate increases in June

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The unemployment rate in the Austin-Round Rock metro increased slightly from May 2024 to June 2024, according to Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) data.

TWC said the unemployment rate in the metro was now at 3.8%, with 56,143 unemployed residents.

According to the data, the Austin metro unemployment rate was below the Texas (4.5%) and national rate (4.3%) in June, and from May to June, the Austin metro gained 4,900 jobs.

May to June job growth:

  • mining, logging and construction (1,600)
  • trade, transportation and utilities (1,200)
  • manufacturing (800)
  • private education and health services (700)
  • government (600)
  • leisure and hospitality (400)
  • other services (400)
  • financial activities (300)

May to June job losses:

  • Professional business services (-1,100)

Annual increases:

  • Mining, logging and construction (4.7%)
  • other services (4.2%)
  • private education and health services (3.8%)
  • government (3.1%)
  • leisure and hospitality (2.7%)
  • trade, transportation and utilities (1.5%)
  • financial activities (1.4%)
  • manufacturing (0.3%)

Annual Decreases:

  • Information (-4.2%)
  • professional and business services (-0.7%)
