The pedestrian killed overnight Tuesday in a hit-and-run crash on Interstate 225 was struck by two vehicles, police said.

Police initially reported that the motorist involved in the fatal crash stayed on scene, but later discovered that a second vehicle had hit the pedestrian and fled the crash, according to Denver Police Department spokesperson Sean Towle.

Towle said the crash is still under investigation, but police believe the car that stayed on scene hit the pedestrian first.

The second vehicle that fled the crash is described as a semi-truck, and police are searching for both the truck and the driver, Towle said.

Around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, Denver officers responded to reports of a crash on southbound I-225 between Exit 1B for Yosemite Street and Exit 1A for Denver Tech Center Boulevard. The crash closed the interstate for nearly three hours.
