Six people, including two Americans, were found dead in a luxury hotel in Bangkok, Thailand on Tuesday, officials said.

The victims, two Vietnamese Americans and four Vietnamese nationals, may have been poisoned in a homicide, Bangkok police chief Lt. Gen. Thiti Sangsawang said.

Their identities and ages have not been released.

Three males and three females had booked several rooms at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel. A seventh person who was part of the same booking remains unaccounted for and is a possible suspect.

The bodies were found by a maid after the guests failed to check out. The door was locked from the inside. They appear to have died about 24 hours before police arrived.

There was uneaten room service food but drinks had been consumed, the chief said. There was a suspicious residue in some of the cups that was collected as evidence.

Police believe the victims “didn’t harm themselves.”

“We are not saying that they were poisoned,” Thiti said at a news conference. “We are considering the possibility that their lives were intentionally targeted. There is a suspicion that someone intended to harm or kill this group of people.”

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin said it was not a robbery or a random assault.

“Our hypothesis is that they ingested something that killed them,” Srettha said.

State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said the U.S. government was monitoring the situation and is prepared “to provide consular assistance” to the victims’ families.
