Nine people were hurt, including a child, after a fellow resident set fire to a four-story apartment building in Brooklyn early Tuesday, cops said.
The blaze on Evergreen Ave. near Troutman St. in Bushwick erupted about 2:50 a.m. Witnesses told police that a man in his 60s, who may have lived on the building’s first floor, set the fire. He was seen pouring a flammable liquid in the hallway before setting the fire and running away.
Nine building residents suffered burns and smoke inhalation. Four were taken to area hospitals with minor injuries, officials said. Two firefighters also suffered minor injuries and were hospitalized.
Among the injured was a child, ABC Eyewitness News reported.
“We had six dogs, a baby, my godson, and his baby moms, which I had to run upstairs and try to save,” a building resident who escaped the flames told Eyewitness News. “I made sure everyone got out the best way they could.”
Responding firefighters put the blaze out within an hour. FDNY fire marshals were investigating the arson claims Tuesday morning.
No arrests have been made.
