NYPD to increase Trump Tower patrols after incident at Donald Trump rally

New York City will increase police patrols at Trump Tower and other locations on Saturday as federal authorities investigate an incident at a Pennsylvania rally that left former President Donald Trump bloodied.

Deputy Mayor Fabien Levy announced the boosted police presence Saturday evening, not long after U.S. Secret Service officials rushed Trump off the stage in Butler, Pennsylvania, following a series of loud bangs that resembled gunshots.

Levy said the surge of police resources comes out of an “abundance of caution” and not in connection to any specific threat. There is no known connection between the incident at the Pennsylvania rally and New York City, he posted on the social media site X.

Trump Tower, the Trump-owned 40 Wall St., Foley Square and City Hall are among the sites where extra police officers will be deployed, Levy said.

In a separate post on X, Mayor Eric Adams called the incident in Pennsylvania “horrific.”

“Sending my prayers to former President Trump, his family, and everyone who was at today’s event,” Adams said. “Political violence has no place in this country.”

In a statement, the Secret Service confirmed that Trump — who was shown in video and photos pumping his fist to the crowd as he left the stage with blood leaking from his right ear — is safe.

“This is now an active Secret Service investigation and further information will be released when available,” Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said.

In a statement, Steven Cheung, a spokesperson for Trump’s campaign, said the former president is “fine and is being checked out at a local medical facility.”
