Donald Trump Warns Barack Obama Wants Kamala Harris ‘In’ 2024 Race

Former President Donald Trump posted on Friday warning and claiming that former President Barack Obama wants President Joe Biden out of the 2024 presidential race and Vice President Kamala Harris “in.”

In the post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said, “OBAMA AND BIDEN HATE EACH OTHER! OBAMA NEVER RESPECTED BIDEN, THOUGHT HE WAS DUMB, AND A TOTAL LIGHTWEIGHT. WILL BE AN INTERESTING COUPLE OF WEEKS. OBAMA WANTS HIM OUT, WANTS V.P. HARRIS IN!”

Obama and Biden have a well-documented friendship. The pair have spent time together in the White House this year in March, according to CNN. The meeting’s tone was “cheerful,” the outlet also noted. Obama and former President Bill Clinton also attended Biden’s Campaign event in the same month in New York.

According to a White House transcript of the campaign event, Obama said, “We also have a positive story to tell about the future. And that is something that Joe Biden has worked on diligently each and every day on behalf of working Americans, and I expect him to continue to do that for the next four years and eight months.”

Meanwhile, pressure has mounted for Biden to drop from the Democratic ticket after his disastrous presidential debate performance at the end of June. Numerous calls for Harris to be the nominee have also sprouted. In a Newsweek op-ed, former Ohio Democratic Congressman Tim Ryan said, “Joe Biden’s debate performance was deeply troubling. But it isn’t just about a 90-minute debate and a terrible performance. This election needs to be about generational change—something about which I have been shouting for more than a year now.”

Ryan added, “After deep reflection over these past few days, I strongly believe that our best path forward is Kamala Harris.”

Obama also commented on Biden’s poor debate performance on X saying in part, “Bad debate nights happen. Trust me, I know. But this election is still a choice between someone who has fought for ordinary folks his entire life and someone who only cares about himself.”

Newsweek has reached out to both Biden and Trump campaigns, and the Obama Foundation for comment on Friday via email and message.

As Biden faces an onslaught of Democratic lawmakers calling for him to step down from his campaign, Colorado Representative Brittany Petterson added to the list on Friday.

Petterson wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter, saying in part, “Please pass the torch to one of our many capable Democratic leaders so we have the best chance to defeat Donald Trump.”

When asked about Trump’s claim about Vice President Harris and his thoughts on whether she is the best route forward for the Democratic ticket, political analyst Craig Agranoff told Newsweek, “It’s important to approach claims like these with a critical eye and consider the broader political context.”

Agranoff continued: “While speculation about potential candidates is common in every election cycle, it’s crucial to focus on the actual platforms and policies being presented. The Democratic Party will ultimately decide on a candidate that they believe best represents their values and can address the nation’s challenges. Whether it’s VP Harris or another candidate, the goal should be to unite the party and present a strong vision for the future.”

As rumors swirl, Harris has backed Biden as the 2024 candidate. Immediately after the presidential debate while speaking to CNN, Harris admitted Biden had a “slow start” but ended “strong.” Harris has also posted numerous times on X about Biden this week, saying on Friday, “President @JoeBiden and I fight for the American people. Donald Trump fights for himself.”
