Biden seeks to shut down calls for him to drop out of the race

WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – With Congress returning to Washington this week the calls will likely grow even louder from President Biden’s own party for him to withdraw from the race.

Many Congressional Democrats are still stopping short of telling President Biden to step aside giving him this week to prove he’s their best option.

“I’ve been doing this a long time,” said Biden.

President Joe Biden has been working to calm concerns about the future of his 2024 campaign.

“If the Lord Almighty came down and said, ‘Joe, get out of the race,’ I’d get out of the race. But the Lord Almighty is not coming down,” said Biden.

However, that’s still not enough for some Congressional Democrats.

“That is the answer that most concerned me as well. This is not just about whether he gave it the best college try,” said Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.).

California Congressman Adam Schiff said President Biden should make the decision that’s best for the country.

“This week is going to be absolutely critical. I think the president needs to do more,” said Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.).

Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy said the president needs to prove to voters he’s still up for the job.

“If he answers those questions this week, there’s no doubt that he can win this race,” said Murphy.

Republicans, including Florida Senator Marco Rubio, argue Democrats will lose this November no matter who they nominate as their candidate.

“The issue is that they are going to be radical. There’s only one pro-life candidate in this race, and it’s Donald Trump,” said Rubio.

Both sides have said they’re open to cognitive tests not only for President Biden but also for former president Donald Trump.
