Hatch recall: Parents urged to 'immediately stop using' baby sound machines

US

(NEXSTAR) – Hatch sound machines that were sold at Target, Walmart, BuyBuyBaby and other nationwide retailers have been recalled due to a risk of shock.

The recall, announced Wednesday, covers roughly 919,400 Rest 1st Generation machines – along with about 44,352 sold in Canada. Some of the units came with AC power adapters that may expose adults and children to electric shock.

The faulty adapters have a plastic housing that can come off when unplugging the unit, making it possible for an adult or child to touch the prongs that plug directly into the electrical outlet.

As of Wednesday, there had been 19 such consumer reports, including two reports that included “a minor electrical shock,” according to Consumer Product Safety Commission (USCPSC) news release.

“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled power adapters sold with Rest 1st Generation sound machines, and contact Hatch for a free replacement power adapter,” the release states. “Consumers should unplug the cord, cut the cord on the recalled power adapter, take a photo of the adapter showing the model number and the cut cord, upload the photo, and provide their name and mailing address at www.hatch.co/adapterrecall.”

If you have a first generation Hatch, check the adapter. Those under recall have the model number CYAP05 050100U, “1.0A” amps, “Jiangsu Chenyang Electron Co. LTD” and “Made in China” printed in black near the adapter prongs.

The devices, which were imported by Hatch Baby Inc., of Palo Alto, California, were sold online at Hatch.co and Amazon.com, and at BuyBuyBaby, Target, Walmart, Nordstrom, Pottery Barn Kids and BestBuy stores nationwide from January 2019 through September 2022.
