2 Los Angeles police officers injured in shootout

Two officers with the Los Angeles Police Department were injured in a shootout with a suspect on Wednesday night, authorities confirmed.

The incident occurred in the Broadway-Manchester neighborhood of South L.A., where the officers attempted a traffic stop on a white Chevrolet Malibu around 9 p.m. near the intersection of Broadway and Rosecrans Avenue.

The Malibu eventually came to a stop and the driver immediately opened fire on the officers, police said. The officers returned fire, though it’s unknown if they struck the suspect.

After firing an unknown number of shots, the driver returned to their vehicle and sped off, with the officers giving chase until losing sight of the car near Broadway and 135th Street.

Both officers were transported to a local hospital and were listed in stable condition. One suffered a graze wound to the forehead while the other was injured by glass shards, authorities said.

The investigation into the shooting is still underway as of Thursday morning. The suspect remains at large.
