Holiday traffic snarls mountain roads in Azusa

US

A crush of Independence Day traffic created chaos in Azusa on Thursday.

By about 11 a.m., the California Highway Patrol, working with the help of Azusa police and the Los Angeles County Fire Department, was working to prevent more vehicles from heading toward the worst of the jam at East Fork and Glendora Mountain roads.

Long lines of cars appeared to stretch for miles down the winding roads.

The vehicles appeared to be headed for campgrounds and streams for swimming, where double-parked vehicles appeared to exceed the supply of space.
