SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — Patelco Credit Union customers are having a hard time making some transactions.
A spokesperson for the Dublin-based credit union says Patelco experienced a ransomware attack.
Patelco told ABC7 News the incident is impacting operations including online banking for half a million customers.
Branches are open, but services are limited.
Outside one branch, customers told us they were unable to cash checks.
ABC7 News: “Did you check your account to see if your money is there?
David: “You can’t look at your account.”
ABC7 News: “Can they look at your account?
David: “No. They give you a paper receipt.”
ABC7 News: “So in the paper receipt, does it show your money is there?”
David: “No.”
Another customer said, “They couldn’t cash the check right now because something is wrong with the system.”

Patelco confirmed that balance inquires are unavailable at the moment, but customers can still make withdrawals and deposits at ATM’s.
According to Patelco’s website, there are 37 branches throughout the Bay Area and Northern California.
