Texas men's hoops use last scholarship on Kansas State transfer forward

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Texas head men’s basketball coach Rodney Terry added another frontcourt piece from the transfer portal June 28, signing former Kansas State forward Arthur Kaluma.

Kaluma averaged 14.4 points and seven rebounds per game for the Wildcats last season and always seemed to have a big impact whenever he took the floor against the Longhorns. In two games against Texas last season, Kaluma scored 31 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to help the Wildcats take down Texas 78-74 in the first round of the Big 12 Conference tournament.

While at Texas’ SEC celebration Sunday, Terry said Kaluma helps “round out the roster” and he was the team’s last scholarship player for the upcoming season.

“He’s an experienced player and a forward that can play all over the floor,” Terry said. “I like our team. We’ve got some really good guards and some big guys that will have a chance to emerge.”

Texas has dipped heavily into the transfer portal this offseason, signing five players including San Marcos star Malik Presley from Vanderbilt, Oregon State’s Jordan Pope, Arkansas’ Tramon Mark and a pair from Indiana State — Jayson Kent and Julian Larry.

Tyrese Hunter transferred out of the program to Memphis and Dillon Mitchell left for Cincinnati.

Texas finished 21-13 last season with a loss to Tennessee in the second round of the NCAA tournament.
