Driver arrested after crash into house kills passenger

SAN JOSE — A driver was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving and manslaughter over the weekend after she reportedly crashed into the second-story of an East San Jose home, killing her passenger, police said.

Miraculously, no one living inside the home was injured when the Subaru sedan barreled into the house in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The crash was reported at 2:26 a.m. and San Jose police said an initial investigation determined that a woman was driving a red 2022 Subaru west on McKee Road “at a high rate of speed” when she lost control of the car near Francis Drive.

That caused the vehicle to go over the center median and cut across all of the oncoming lanes and hit the southern curb of McKee Road. The car then broke through a fence and went into a back yard where it hit a two-story house on Sorgepark Place, authorities said. Soon after, the residents inside were evacuated.
