In posts to X, formerly Twitter, the Sheriff’s Office said that two deputies made contact with a “suspicious pedestrian” on Avenida De Los Arboles at about 6:50 a.m.

The deputies discovered a knife at the scene during that encounter, according to authorities. It was not immediately specified whether the man was wielding the knife or if it was in his possession.

One of the deputies then shot the man. He was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition.

His identity was not immediately released, but authorities said he is 37 years old.

The Sheriff’s Office said more details would be shared at a later time.
