CHICAGO — The 1865 Fest celebrating Juneteenth, Black culture, and fatherhood wrapped up Sunday.
The event, held in Chicago’s Garfield Park, focused on fathers and freedom.
Families came together for a “grillin and chillin” cook-off, music and stepping and also lifted up dads with lots of love and support.
June 19th 1865 was the day the remaining enslaved Black people were freed, more than two years after the emancipation proclamation.
Festivities started on Friday with a flag raising honoring Black military veterans. Saturday was Youth Day.
