Boy, 15, dies from gunshot wounds weeks after South Side shooting

US

A 15-year-old boy has died from gunshot wounds he suffered in a shooting two weeks ago in the city’s Back of the Yards neighborhood.

Michael Jones was outside in the 800 block of West 52nd Street when he was approached by two people who opened fire shortly after 11:35 a.m. on March 27, according to Chicago police. He was shot in the chest and arms, and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition, police said.

On Thursday, Jones was pronounced dead at the hospital at 8:44 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. An autopsy performed Saturday found that the teen died from complications related to the gunshot wounds and the death was ruled a homicide by the medical examiner’s office.

As of Saturday afternoon, police had no suspects in custody, as detectives continued their investigation.
