HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Traffic is growing on Houston’s northside near George Bush Intercontinental Airport after a deadly crash early Thursday morning left all northbound lanes of the I-69 Eastex Freeway blocked.

The fatal crash happened just before 4:30 a.m. in the outbound lanes near Rankin Road, just north of the Sam Houston Tollway.

SkyEye video from above the scene shows traffic crawling on the mainlanes, where drivers are being forced off the freeway at Rankin.

Traffic is also slow moving in the southbound lanes of I-69 and in the east and westbound lanes of the Sam Houston Tollway.

Humble police told ABC13 that one person was confirmed dead at the scene, and another was taken to the hospital. Officials said they got a call about a wrong-way driver, and when they arrived at the scene, the crash had already happened.

ABC13 video from the ground shows two vehicles with heavy damage. It’s unclear which driver was at fault.

Drivers can take the Hardy Toll Road or Old Humble Road as an alternate route.
