Travis County jury acquits man accused of shooting, killing man in north Austin

TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — A Travis County jury acquitted a man accused of shooting and killing a man in north Austin in April 2023.

Jury selection began on Monday for Stacey Donnell Easley, 52, according to the Travis County District Attorney’s Office. Then, on Thursday, the jury deliberated and found Easley not guilty of murder.

On April 18, 2023, Easley was arrested after he was accused of shooting and killing Johnny Edmondson, 29. Edmondson died on the scene, according to officials.

Then, Easley was indicted for the murder charge on May 12, 2023, according to the DA’s office.

“Our hearts continue to break for the family of Johnny Edmondson,” said Travis County DA José Garza in the release. “We hoped that the outcome of this trial would bring justice and closure to the family. We are grateful to our community members who served on the jury for this case, respect their decision, and thank them for their service.”
