The temperature has dropped, pumpkin spice lattes are back, and Salem’s Haunted Happenings is up and running. Who wouldn’t want to indulge in the thrill of the fall season with a scary book?

There’s plenty to choose from. We have Book Club’s October pick is “Horror Movie,” a fictional story following the last surviving cast member of the low-budget film that amassed a cult following. Years later, the movie is set for a big budget Hollywood remake – exposing many skeletons from the film’s closet in the process.

You might also want to dive into horror books after watching “Salem’s Lot” on Max.

In 2022, we published your recommendations of 20 of the scariest books you’ll ever read. Now it’s time to update our guide with the books you’ve read that left you truly scared.

We want to know your recommendations: What is the scariest book you’ve ever read? Which stories gave you goosebumps or left you on the edge of your seat? Send us your favorite stories from horror and related genres to help us create a guide of good reads for the season.

Tell us why you’d recommend this book to other readers by filling out the survey below or e-mailing us at [email protected]. We may feature your response in a future Boston.com article or social media content.

Happy spooky season, everyone.
