Petey's Bungalow Restaurant & Lounge closing Oct. 15

OAK LAWN, Ill. – A beloved Oak Lawn restaurant announced it will be closing Tuesday, Oct. 15.

Petey’s Bungalow Restaurant & Lounge made the announcement on its Facebook page.

The restaurant opened in 1961 and was run by Petey and his wife Mary since its opening. Mary died last year and Petey said her passing made him realize the restaurant the just not the same without her, leading him to make the decision to close the restaurant.

“Mary and I lived the American dream. Our journey began 63 years ago and we followed our passion of restaurant entrepreneurship by opening and running our own businesses — the Bungalow and Petey’s II. As time passes, you finally realize when it’s time to end a chapter”, Petey said in a statement.

Petey’s II closed in January of this year.

Petey’s Bungalow Restaurant & Lounge said Petey plans to enjoy his last few days at the Bungalow “doing what he loves most in the kitchen and greeting friends while honoring any outstanding gift certificates.”

The restaurant’s full statement can be found here.
