Norco inmate dies in Riverside County detention center

Authorities announced Sunday that an inmate at the Cois M. Byrd Detention Center died in custody Friday night.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office reported deputies first found the inmate, identified as 40-year-old Johnnie Curtis Stevens of Norco, unresponsive outside of a housing unit cell.

Despite administering life-saving measures, paramedics ultimately pronounced Stevens dead.

Investigators say there were no signs of foul play.

The sheriff’s office says the investigation is ongoing, and no further information is available.
