A suspect said to be “inebriated” was detained, but two others fled the scene of a deadly altercation that took place inside a garage in Carson.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were called to the 40th block of Camelback Avenue North at 4:25 a.m. Sunday on reports that someone had been shot.

Upon arriving at the location, the deputies observed a black pickup truck leaving the scene with the gunshot victim inside.

Deputies stopped the truck and performed CPR on the victim until paramedics arrived and transported him to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead, LASD said.

He was only identified as a Hispanic man who lived at the location.

“Investigators learned that a fight occurred inside the attached garage of the location…there were four residents inside the garage when they were confronted by three individuals who walked into the garage from an alley, and a fight ensued,” deputies stated. “During the fight, one of the suspects produced a firearm and fired one round, striking the victim.”

After the shooting, two of the suspects fled southbound on foot through the alley from which they entered. The third suspect was inebriated and remained at the scene, according to authorities.

He was detained and questioned by deputies; however, LASD did not state whether he was arrested.

Deputies described one of the outstanding suspects as a Black man but were unable to provide a description for the other suspect.

No further information was immediately made available.
