Family members of a fatal hit-and-run victim are speaking out after newly surfaced surveillance video shows not one, but two drivers ran over the biker in Northridge.
The man, identified as Danny Oerlemans, was on his way to buy cat food when he was struck and killed on the night of Sept. 19, according to his family.
Neither driver stopped to help.
“Devastating, I can’t believe people wouldn’t,” said his sister, Jeannette Oerlemans. “It’s a human body and to just run over them and not check to see if he’s okay, to keep going.”
Oerlemans told KTLA’s Jennifer McGraw that their family is heartbroken, especially for his two children who are 23 and 16 years old.
“It’s rough for them,” said Oerlemans. “It’s something that you don’t expect.,”
Oerlemans’ family is now speaking out and posting posters, hoping to generate any information on what happened to her brother.
The surveillance footage shows one driver had a grey-colored car, and the other a pickup truck.
Oerlemans said she’s worried her brother will just become another statistic, and that the drivers won’t be held accountable.
“My hope now is that maybe people will see this and maybe they saw something,” said Oerlemans. “Maybe they were here that night and can give us some information to lead us to the people who killed him.”
