Teen killed, two injured in Lake County crash involving semi-truck and passenger vehicle

LAKE COUNTY, Ind. – A teen was killed and two others were injured in a crash Saturday morning in Lake County, Indiana.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said at around 11:45 a.m., officers were sent to the intersection of West 181st Avenue and Harrison Street to investigate reports of a crash involving a semi tractor trailer and a passenger vehicle.

The preliminary investigation showed the passenger vehicle was traveling north on Harrison Street and was trying to turn left onto West 181st Avenue. The semi was traveling eastbound on West 181st Avenue when the two vehicles crashed into each other, according to investigators.

The sheriff’s office said the driver of the passenger vehicle was 19 years old and was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other occupants of the vehicle, ages 14 and 15, were flown to Chicago hospitals with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the semi was 67 years old and was not injured.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Department Crash Reconstruction Team is continuing its investigation.
