Jaylen Brown has been working on his Arabic, and he used Friday’s preseason game in Abu Dhabi as a platform to show his progress.

The Celtics star Brown took the microphone alongside Nuggets guard Russell Westbrook at Etihad Arena pregame and thanked the crowd. He drew praise for his delivery, both from fans on hand and via social media afterward.

“Especially being here in the summertime, I picked up a lot of different words,” Brown told reporters. “Just wanted to connect and resonate with the crowd a little bit.”

A reporter then asked Brown about his time in Egypt this summer. Brown called Egypt “amazing” and said he has a lot of great friends from the country.

He said he also visited Egypt in the past, with his mother and grandparents. Brown got to show his grandmother, who has since passed, the pyramids in Cairo.

“We cherish those moments in my family,” Brown said.

This summer, he attended Sahel, on the north coast of Egypt.

“Never seen water so blue,” Brown said.

The Celtics beat the Nuggets, 107-103, thanks in part to eight points in 19 minutes from Brown. They’ll meet again Sunday at 10 a.m. ET.
