Newsweek spoke to Sophie Kihm, the editor-in-chief at Nameberry, who said fast fashion names were the most surprising trend for 2025, based on parental feedback.

“Names like Ryett and Aven may not appeal to everyone, but their rise signals a shift toward more immediate, in-the-moment naming styles that reflect broader cultural trends in fashion and design,” she said.

Kihm also told Newsweek that parents are seeking names that offer a sense of calm and safety in an unpredictable world, as well as a strong dislike for the trend of aggressive boy names such as Arson, Gunner and Cutter.

As Gen Zers start to embrace parenthood, their naming choices stand out for their boldness and creativity. Kihm said that younger parents take a riskier approach when it comes to naming their child, which is why the report reflected trends like femininomenal names and otherworldly names taking off.

“Millennial parents, meanwhile, are more likely to go for the more traditional-leaning trends such as Croc names, old-fashioned choices that are so ugly they’re beautiful; global Americana names, which are deeply rooted choices with international origins; and country rebrand names, many of which are old-school names being seen through a new lens,” she said.
