Abdulrahim Sulaiman, 38, is facing charges after allegedly attacking a mother and her two sons with a baseball bat last week.

A 6-year-old boy died Wednesday after he and his family were beaten with a baseball bat in Connecticut last week, according to police and multiple news outlets.

Bridgeport police announced on Wednesday that the child died after he was assaulted on Sept. 25 on Main Street during a domestic violence incident. NBC Connecticut reported that the other victims were the child’s 4-year-old brother and his mother.

The brother and mother, who were initially in critical condition, have been released from the hospital, NECN reported.

Abdulrahim Sulaiman, 38, was facing multiple charges, including attempt to commit murder, assault, risk of injury to a child, and possession of a dangerous weapon, according to court records. Bridgeport police said Sulaiman’s charges have been upgraded to murder with special circumstances.

Last Wednesday, police responded to a Main Street home after multiple 911 calls reporting the attack, the Hartford Courant reported. The mother told police that Sulaiman, who is not the children’s father, beat her and her children with a baseball bat. The mother and her children were found with critical injuries, and the 6-year-old boy wasn’t breathing and didn’t have a pulse, according to the Courant.

On surveillance footage, Sulaiman reportedly threw the baseball bat outside an apartment window before diving out himself, according to the Courant. Sulaiman was identified by a witness, and he was taken into custody.

The Courant reported an officer was able to resuscitate the boy before he was taken to St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport, according to the police report.
