(NEXSTAR) – It’s been nearly a week since Hurricane Helene unleashed deadly fury on the Gulf Coast and caused flooding, food shortages and power disruptions still being felt by communities in the storm’s path.

Nexstar, the parent company of this news station, covers the daily news in cities and towns across America, including several in the path of last week’s storm. Our reporters in the field witnessed firsthand the heroism of emergency personnel and the resilience of communities that come together to rescue and rebuild. We also know the importance of partnering with organizations dedicated to providing basic necessities in the hours after a disaster. That’s why, as with previous emergencies, we are partnering with the Red Cross.

Over the first weekend alone the Red Cross deployed 1,400 disaster workers and created 70 temporary emergency shelters to house and feed those in need. Their work continues to assist with Helene and the next disasters requiring immediate response.

On Thursday, Oct. 3, Nexstar is hosting an hour-long special at 3 p.m. ET in the video player at the top of this page. Reporters who rode out the storm will explain what Americans faced in the hours after Helene arrived. Red Cross representatives will also explain how your donations are being used to help Americans across 10 states get back on their feet.

Please consider joining our efforts to support the Red Cross by following this donation link and contributing to storm relief.
