VP candidates hit the campaign trail after debate

US

WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – Almost a month until this November’s election, and a day after the vice-presidential debate, the candidates for vice president headlined the campaign trail on Wednesday.

Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio.) stopped in Michigan, while Governor Tim Walz (D-Minn.) embarked on a bus tour through Pennsylvania.

New polling from the Cook Political Report shows Vice President Kamala Harris gaining on the economy. It shows voters now evenly divided on who would be better suited to handle inflation and the cost of living, though Trump still holds a five-point lead on the economy. In the national poll, Harris leads by two points.

“Donald Trump’s economic policies worked for American families. They worked for American consumers,” Vance said in Michigan.

Vance honed in on the economy and immigration. Two issues the Republicans see as strengths for their party.

“Yes, Kamala Harris is responsible, as the border czar, for the wide open border,” Vance said.

Walz talked healthcare on the bus tour.

“The idea that Donald Trump tried to save Obamacare is an absolute falsehood. That did not happen,” Walz said.

He also cleaned up a statement he made on Tuesday night’s debate, where he said he made friends with school shooters.

“I’ve become good friends with these Parkland parents and of course the Sandy Hook parents who I credit and I thank them for a profound change in how we have to make this happen,” Walz said.

Former president Donald Trump held a fundraiser in Texas. Vice President Kamala Harris toured damage from Hurricane Helene.
