Bears punter Tory Taylor named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week

Punter Tory Taylor was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week on Wednesday, three days after he pinned the Rams at the 8 twice and came within one pooch kick of setting a Bears record.

Taylor was averaging 60.5 yards per punt, which would have been a franchise record, before punting 35 yards to pin the Rams at the 8 with 1:03 to play and tailing by six. The Bears intercepted a pass on the next play.

Taylor averaged 55.4 yards per punt Sunday.

“There’s no secret recipe — it was really just everyone going out there and dominating for the 10 seconds that we’re on the field,” Taylor said after the game. “A lot of guys deserve a lot of credit.”

Coach Matt Eberflus wasn’t surprised.

“I see it every day, I see every week,” he said. “He’s got a couple of different sand wedges, I think. So he’s pretty good.”
