Austin Police Department participates in National Night Out

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department and its new Police Chief Lisa Davis participated in National Night Out on Tuesday in an effort to strengthen the bond between officers and community members.

The Austin Police Department hosted National Night Out at three locations across Austin that included neighborhoods at Baythorne Drive, Dale Drive and West 23rd Street.

The event had a DJ, pizza, games and giveaways. National Night Out also allowed the opportunity for people to meet their neighbors and get to know business owners in their community.

“When you are looking at neighborhoods and crimes occurring, it is not a police problem. It is not just a neighborhood problem… it matters to people,” Chief Davis said.

National Night Out is traditionally held in August, however, due to Austin weather the event is held in October.
