CHICAGO — A 14-year-old boy is at Comer Children’s Hospital on Wednesday morning after being shot multiple times Tuesday night in the city’s Auburn Gresham neighborhood.
The boy’s latest condition was listed as critical, and Chicago police say they do not have anybody in custody.
“It’s a terrible sight to see a child’s backpack … and shell casing markers at the same place, at the same time,” Pastor Donovan Price said. “But unfortunately, when a child was on the way (home) from school, (he) was shot.
“A 14-year-old was shot multiple times and is now fighting for his life.”
Police say officers responded to a call about a person shot around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 7800 block of South Marshfield Avenue, on Chicago’s Southwest Side. When they arrived, officers found a 14-year-old boy who had been shot multiple times in the body.
He was then transported to Comer Children’s Hospital, police say.
There appeared to be many shots fired at the scene, and detectives were seen collecting evidence late into Tuesday night. Police have not released any type of description of the suspect or suspects they’re looking for.
