Dachshund Guarding the Gate To Stop Owners Leaving Breaks Hearts

US

A dachshund’s hilarious method for stopping his owners from leaving the house has tugged at the heartstrings of online viewers.

The miniature dachshund, Clovis, had attempted to prevent his owners from going out by standing in front of the gate of their home.

The sausage dog’s amusing tactic was shared to Instagram under @clovetheween on September 26 and has since been viewed more than 571,000 times.

Dachshunds, known for their distinctive long bodies and short legs, are also renowned for forming deep bonds with their owners. These affectionate companions often become profoundly attached, exhibiting a strong need for close contact, according to the American Kennel Club website.

This unwavering loyalty can sometimes manifest as separation anxiety, making it challenging for them to be left alone for extended periods of time, and they often require attentive and loving care to ensure their emotional well-being.

Viewers online were able to see how much Clovis, who lives in San Diego, California, wanted to stay close to his owners. The determined canine was filmed in his yard, guarding the chainlink gate.

Text overlaid on the video read: “Whenever our dachshund sees us getting ready to leave he goes and guards the gate so we won’t leave.”

Several viewers shared their delight at the dog’s antics in the comments section. More than 30,000 Instagram users have liked the post to date, while 133 have left comments laughing along at Clovis’ trick or sharing how much they can relate to the dog’s attempt at keeping his family at home.

“Get him a friend,” one viewer, @smoses07, said. “Omg he looks so cute and sad.”

“Take that sweet angel with you,” another, @bnmorgs, added.

“The eyes get me every time,” a third viewer, @weeniedog_oakley, shared.

“No one must leave,” another, @leotheweenie, added.

Another, @kim_henninger, said: “What is so funny is they put on that sad act, but as soon as you leave they go nap like you never existed! We have a Boxer named Jack and he will put ON A SHOW when we leave for work, stand in front of the door, hold his collar in his mouth, the sad eyes. Lordy! It still kills me to leave him though!”

The post had been captioned: “It’s so hard to leave him alone!”
