Though he has moved to the broadcaster booth, Tom Brady remains just as competitive.

Following recent comments made by Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield — Brady’s successor in the Tampa Bay offense — the Hall of Fame quarterback couldn’t help but respond.

Mayfield, speaking during an interview with the “Casa De Klub” podcast, seemed to blame Brady for a tense atmosphere in the Buccaneers locker room when he arrived in 2023.

“The building was a little bit different with Tom in there. Obviously, playing-wise, Tom is different. He had everybody dialed in, high-strung environment, so I think everybody was pretty stressed out,” Mayfield claimed. “They wanted me to come in, be myself, bring the joy back to football for guys who weren’t having as much fun.”

Brady, upon hearing Mayfield’s words, had a fitting reply.

“I thought stressful was not having Super Bowl rings,” Brady said. “There was a mind-set of a champion that I took to work every day. This wasn’t day care. If I wanted to have fun, I was going to go to Disneyland with my kids.”

Brady played for the Buccaneers for three seasons from 2020-2022. In that time, he led Tampa to its second Super Bowl over the Chiefs. He then led the team to a 13-4 regular season record in his second year, but fell to 8-9 in his final year before his (second) retirement.

During his time with the Buccaneers, Brady averaged 4,881 passing yards with 36 touchdowns – totals that are greater than any single season in Mayfield’s career.
